All events, decisions and actions taken by authorities are recorded within the MIMA system. This is a vital component of the system and provides a reliable platform on which to:
- facilitate debriefing
- provide evidence for inquiries (e.g. judicial and public),
- allow the lessons learnt from incidents to be identified
- to make information more widely available to the public
Two kinds of documentation are provided within the MIMA system:
- A contemporaneous log of events, supplemented by notes of incident control meetings;
- Post-incident audit of the response, in consultation with the emergency services, the local authority and other agencies, including the public.
